I don’t know if I ever noticed this weather pattern at home when I was growing up, or if we didn’t get it as often in our climate back then.
A couple of years ago in Ibiza, a friend we made there looked up at the sky with some concern, pointing out a “big white cloud” as a harbinger of violent weather. We scoffed at the idea, as we only really associated big cumulus-type clouds with “nice weather”.
These days, though, hot summer days increasingly seem capable of producing some rather impressive rainstorms. A warmer climate makes the conditions for heavy downpours more favourable, so perhaps that “big white cloud” is something we’ll have to learn to read a little differently.
